soul food birthday

July 29, 2013 § Leave a comment

this weekend for my birthday, in news not wholly unrelated to Aine’s last cornbread muffin post, we had a soul-food themed bbq. and it was good.

there were the old standbys:

corn bake

and mac & cheese

and then there was THIS beaut of a recipe that I will undoubtedly be trying again, and not just because I have an extra rack of ribs stashed away in my freezer.

they were so good. they were so easy.  mmmm. ribs.

NB: the photo above belongs to the kind folks over at Food 52. i would have taken my own pictures. honest. but by the time we got to grilling, it was rather dark.  there was the additional complicating factor of the jug of lemonade and Jeremiah weed (sweet-tea flavored vodka) which, if you are unfamiliar, is the less well-behaved, much younger cousin of mr. arnie palmer.
